The UAE Trading Day, Hour by Hour
Your screen only moves for part of the Gulf day, and the rest of the clock is worth planning around.

The market wakes while the UAE sleeps, and stops for your weekend
Forex opens on Sunday evening UAE time and runs until Friday evening, so the trading week starts as your weekend ends and finishes before your weekend begins. The first hours after the Sunday open are thin: Sydney is live, Tokyo has not started, and price often drifts before real volume arrives. If you trade that window, expect wide gaps between quotes and less to react to.
The close on Friday evening matters just as much. Positions held into the weekend carry risk that no stop can manage, because nothing trades until Sunday night. Many UAE traders flatten before the Friday close rather than carry exposure through two days of silence.
| Part of the day | Local time · GST |
|---|---|
| Busiest window | 16:00-21:00 GST — London and New York open together |

| US open | 16:00-01:00 GST |
| Closed | Friday New York close until the Sydney open on Monday |

Morning belongs to Asia, and it is quieter than the evening
Sydney runs from 01:00 to 10:00 GST and Tokyo from 04:00 to 13:00 GST, which means the UAE working morning sits inside the Asian session. If you are at a desk in Dubai or Abu Dhabi before lunch, you are trading Tokyo hours. Ranges are usually tighter and moves slower than what comes later.
This is the window that suits anyone whose job occupies the afternoon. It is also the window that tempts people into overtrading, because a quiet chart looks like an invitation. Treat it as a session with its own character, not as a warm-up for London.

An indicative rate is for sizing a position in your head, not for settling one. Your broker's conversion will not match this rate, and that difference is a real cost.
Afternoon and evening carry the volume, and the overlap carries the most
London runs from 12:00 to 21:00 GST, taking over as Tokyo fades, and New York runs from 16:00 to 01:00 GST. The two overlap between 16:00 and 21:00 GST, which is the busiest stretch of the UAE day. That overlap lands after work for most people here, which is convenient rather than accidental.
New York then continues alone into the late UAE evening, so anyone trading after 21:00 GST is trading US hours with London gone. Liquidity thins as the night goes on, and the last hour before the 01:00 close is not the same market as the 16:00 open. Know which of those you are actually in.

A figure with no source and no date is a guess with good manners. Anything we could not trace is left out rather than printed from memory.
Fit the clock to your week, then stop watching the clock
A Gulf working week leaves evenings free and mornings short. Pick the window that fits that shape, whether it is the Asian morning or the London-New York overlap, and trade the same one repeatedly. Switching sessions every day means learning four different markets badly instead of one properly.
Your broker's platform clock, your bank's transfer times and the session hours above are three separate things. A deposit sent by bank transfer does not land on the platform instantly, and the platform's server time may not match GST. Check the broker's funding page for its cut-off times, and confirm any firm's regulatory status on the CMA register at uaecma.gov.ae before you rely on it.
| Platform | What it is | Who makes it |
|---|---|---|
| MetaTrader 4 | The older standard; expert advisors and a large script ecosystem | MetaQuotes |
| MetaTrader 5 | The newer build; more order types and timeframes | MetaQuotes |
| cTrader | Depth of market and a different order model | Spotware |
| The broker's own app | Usually simpler, and tied to that one firm | The broker |
A platform is software, not a safeguard: the same terminal is offered by licensed and unlicensed firms alike. A high rating is not a permission. The register is where the licence is confirmed.
Your bank moves money on UAE working days, not on forex market hours
A trader can watch the Tokyo session on a Tuesday morning and still wait until Wednesday for the deposit to land, because the platform and the bank keep separate calendars. The forex market trades through the UAE night, but local bank transfer desks do not staff themselves around Tokyo or New York.
The practical consequence is that funding decisions belong to UAE banking hours, not session hours. A withdrawal request submitted late on a Thursday evening may sit until Sunday, since the UAE weekend interrupts the local processing chain even while the market itself has reopened elsewhere.
Check the broker's own funding page for the cut-off times that apply to bank transfer, local bank transfer, card and international wire. Then confirm the receiving bank's own processing window in the banking app. Neither the platform clock nor the session clock tells you when cleared funds arrive.
| Document | What it proves |
|---|---|
| Emirates ID or passport with residence visa | Who you are |
| Selfie with the ID document | That the document is in your hands |
Brokers usually also ask for proof of address - Ejari or utility bill; requirements differ per firm. What a particular firm will take is written on its own account-opening page.
Confirming CMA supervision is a separate task from reading a session table
Session timing tells a trader when prices tend to move. It says nothing about who holds the money, which entity supervises the firm, or where a complaint would be filed. Those are different questions with different answers, and they are answered on the CMA register of licensed companies at uaecma.gov.ae.
A common failure mode is choosing a broker because its platform clock matches UAE evenings comfortably, then discovering the account sits with an overseas entity outside the CMA list. The trading experience can feel identical while the supervisory position is not.
The order of operations is straightforward. Check the register first, then look at funding methods, then look at the session clock. Doing it in that order prevents a trader from building a routine around a firm whose local standing was never verified.

A register says whether a firm holds a licence on the day you look, and nothing about how it treats clients. Use the company name from the site's footer - that is what a register will know it as.
A missed UAE evening does not mean the day is lost, but it does change the plan
Traders who treat the New York overlap as the only worthwhile window often abandon the day entirely when work runs late. That is a planning error rather than a market fact. The Asian hours still trade, and the London session still opens in the UAE afternoon.
What changes is the character of the activity, not its existence. A quieter window suits a slower review of open positions, while the busier evening suits decisions that need volume behind them. Mixing the two without deciding in advance is where discipline slips.
The workable approach is to name a backup window before the week starts. If the main evening slot is lost to a late meeting or a family commitment, the fallback is already chosen and does not require a fresh judgement call at the moment of frustration.
How deposits and withdrawals travel
- Local bank transfer
- Limits set by your bank and the broker
- Card
- Card payment — limits set by your card issuer and the broker
- International wire
- Bank transfer — limits set by your bank and the broker
Limits and fees are set by the provider and the broker and change without notice, so they are not printed here. Read the limits in the provider's app, then on the broker's funding page, and keep the payout route the same as the deposit route.
Session charts show the market's clock, and your platform may show a different one
Many traders compare a session diagram against the timestamps on their own platform and conclude the chart is wrong. Usually the platform is simply set to another time zone, often one used by the broker's servers rather than GST. The candles are real, but the labels along the axis are not local.
This matters when a trader plans around a specific hour. A window that looks like the UAE evening on the platform may actually correspond to a different local time, and the resulting trades land in a quieter or busier period than intended.
The fix is to check the platform's time zone setting once, note the offset against GST, and stop re-checking it every week. Session knowledge is only useful when it is mapped onto the clock actually in front of the trader.
Four claims worth one minute of checking
- A fixed monthly return, promised in advance
- Ask which licence permits it, then look the firm up on the CMA register of licensed companies.
- A deposit asked for in gift cards or vouchers
- Check the broker's own funding page: firms list bank, card and wallet rails, not vouchers.
- Someone offering to trade the account for you
- Managing money for a client is a separate permission. The register says whether a firm holds it.
- A withdrawal released only after a new payment
- Read the withdrawal terms you agreed to. Such a fee, if invented at payout, is not part of them.
None of this is a judgement about any firm. Each line is a check you can run yourself, starting at uaecma.gov.ae.
If I only have one free hour in the UAE evening, which one should it be?
The 16:00 to 21:00 GST stretch, when London and New York are both live, is the one hour most likely to produce movement worth watching. It is also the most volatile, so size and stops deserve more thought there than in the quiet Asian morning.
Does the market ever stop during the UAE day?
It does not stop between Sunday evening and Friday evening, but activity drops sharply at the handovers. The gap between the Tokyo close and full London volume, and the hours after New York thins out, are the dead patches in the local day.
Should I worry about which regulator a broker answers to?
Three regimes operate here: the CMA onshore, the DFSA in the DIFC and the FSRA in the ADGM. Which one holds a firm's licence decides who handles a complaint, so check the CMA register at uaecma.gov.ae and the broker's own disclosures before opening an account.
